In 2015, we have successfully completed and have progressed on a number of new projects and initiatives as well as renewing our successful Business Incentive Program.

CERC to Honor the Hamden Economic Development Corporation as the Top Economic Development Organization in the Region
On December 2nd at the Bushnell Theatre in Hartford, the Hamden Economic Development Corporation will be honored as the best economic development organization in the South Central CT. Region. The honor will be recognized at the annual Celebrate CT! Annual Year-End Event sponsored by the Connecticut Economic Resource Center (CERC). CERC is a nonprofit corporation and public-private partnership that provides economic development research and marketing services consistent with state strategies, leveraging Connecticut’s unique advantages as a premier business location.
Recently the Hamden Economic Development Corporation, a 501C4 Corporation, has achieved a great success in economic and community development as a production and redevelopment organization. Its’ accomplishments include over $30 million dollars in projects including;
• Brownfield Redevelopment of 400 Goodrich Street
• Over 100 home structural repairs in the Newhall Consent Area
• Deconstruction and Job Training Program
• Business Incubator
• Zero Energy House
• Remediation and Redevelopment of Rochford Field and Villano Park

“We are very proud of our accomplishments in Hamden and in the region. Our team has shown that you can do a lot with available grant resources and that we have been able to address challenging community problems in an effective and efficient way”, stated Dale Kroop, the Executive Director for the Hamden Economic Development Corporation.

The December 2nd event honors economic development organizations and projects that have made a significant impact in the regions throughout Connecticut. The Project of the Year in the South Central Region is The Guilford Commons, a large retail development in Guilford CT. The program will begin at 430 and will include a dinner and an awards ceremony. Grand Opening of NEW Medical Practices

The Town of Hamden helped to celebrate the ribbon cutting and grand opening of a new 8,000 SF. medical office building that includes two new medical practices, Generations Ob-Gyn, PC and Connecticut Psychiatric and Wellness Center . The new building located at 2446 Whitney Avenue, Hamden CT at the corner of Whitney Avenue and Colonial Drive.

Dance Fits U is open in Hamden!

Dance Fits U is a small business started by two Hamden natives brought up as members of our local dance studios and the Hamden High Dance Team program. Dance Fits U is a competitive dance and fitness training center.

Kelley May and Kristy Cavanaugh have been involved in the Hamden High Dance Team program since they were members of team themselves. Together they have brought the team to a championship level and are striving for 10 consecutive state championships as well as placing in the top 10 at the national dance team championship.

Villano Park Dedication and Opening Set For November 6th

The Town of Hamden is pleased to announce that Villano Park (formerly known as Milrock Park) will be dedicated and opened to the public on November 6th 2015 at 2PM. The completion of the park culminates several years of planning and a year of construction. Rochford Field is also nearing completion. Rochford Field will be open for baseball in the spring of 2016.

Cluster Meetings Set for Early October

The Town of Hamden will hold two Business Cluster meetings in early October. These are meetings to provide a forum for important members of Hamden’s economy to collaborate with each other on common issues and to work as partners with the Town in order to be successful. “It is critical that we provide a consistent message to our economic development partners which acknowledges that the Town recognizes and appreciates the value of their contributions to the growth of Hamden”, stated Mayor Curt Leng.

Dr. Robert Henry to Build New Medical Office Building

The Hamden Legislative Council has approved business incentives for Dr. Robert Henry to move and expand his medical practice. Dr. Henry will relocate from a small rental location on Todd Street near Whitney Avenue to 3594 Whitney Avenue at the corner of Todd Street. The new space will be 8,000 S.F.and will include an expansion of his own medical practice as well as leasing to another medical group. Renovations are expected to take several months and will be completed in the summer of 2016

Hamden Economic and Community Development Department through its’ Business Assistance Center, will offer a four part series on various topics for business owners and people who are considering starting or expanding a business. The program will be open to Hamden residents and Hamden business owners
