Hamden Announces Planning Meetings For 2018 Economic Development Plan

Friday, March 9, 2018
The process of developing a new economic strategy in Hamden moves into high gear over the next several months. The Town has announced numerous meetings for businesses and interested residents to attend. Every 2-3 years the Town renews its strategy for economic development. The process is conducted through the Economic Development Commission (EDC). The Town has had a plan since 1998. The current plan expires on June 30, 2018. “We will use our existing business “infrastructure” and look at the current economic market conditions to evaluate the needs of business and potential investments that need to be made by the Town of Hamden. Like any other business a community must make investments to grow. We will use the exiting Business Cluster committees to conduct forums and our relationships with business leaders to develop a strategy that can contribute to the Town current and future growth”, Stated Dale Kroop who been the Towns Director since 1999. On the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm (3rd floor conference room in Government Center), the Hamden EDC will leave time on the normal agenda for public participation and input about pressing business and economic needs in Hamden.

Our goal is to retain talent and leaders of tomorrow. We will soon bring many of these options to the kids and parents in Hamden. The following is an example of a non-traditional learning opportunity that I think is a good example of what you can do to develop a marketable job skill. Enjoy!

The Changing Face of the Economy and How It Affects Hamden

Tuesday, January 23, 2018
Technology has forever changed the local, state and national economy. It affects retail trade, services that we buy and products that we have come to know.

The landscape of retail continues to change. The list keeps getting longer for stores that are closing in the northeast and across the country. According to MoneyMagazine.com and many other publications, it is anticipated that over 25% of all shopping malls in the United States will likely CLOSE by the year 2022.
