Opens Hamden Area Office to Serve the Workforce Needs of the New Haven Region Executive Director, Dale Kroop of BOROUGH496 is pleased to announce the newest addition to BOROUGH496 (Hamden Business Incubator) at 496 Newhall Street. BOROUGH496 opened on December 2nd, 2019 in the heart of southern Hamden.
“We are excited to tell everyone that there are new opportunities for community residents interested in corporate and business careers by getting the benefit of our newest member. INROADS is a game changer for people who seek self-improvement, self-confidence and support. It fits perfectly with two major areas of our value system at BOROUGH496; Workforce Development and Economic Inclusiveness.
It’s no secret that for years, people of color — Blacks, Hispanic/Latinos, and Native American Indians — were noticeably absent from the ranks of corporate North America. By June of 1970, it was time to make a change.
It was at that time that Frank C. Carr, the late founder, planted the seeds for what INROADS has become today. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s landmark “I Have a Dream” speech, Frank quit his executive-level corporate day job and committed to taking swift and decisive action to increase ethnically diverse employees in corporate management in the U.S., and to help change the way these candidates gained entry into the business world.
Frank launched INROADS in his hometown of Chicago with just 25 college student Interns and 17 sponsoring corporations. Today, INROADS is an international organization operating in 22 Cities and serving nearly 4000 students and 200 partner companies.
INROADS was fully operational on February 1st at BOROUGH496 in a 680 SF classroom and will utilize the training room and other public spaces to conduct training and educational seminars.
With its vast network of corporate partners and alumni, INROADS offers programs and matches each participant with a mentor and while offering internships in areas of interest. Participants have a different kind of orientation as part of working with the business community more directly as part of their training.
Corporate clients of INROADS are keenly interested in having access to talent and INROADS participants often fit that role. Clients receive a savings of time and dollars spent recruiting, screening, matching, coaching, and training their diverse interns. They also receive the benefits of “fit” because the INROADS process emphasizes the communication with them to know and understand their business, while simultaneously, knowing and coaching its’ students.
This relationship ultimately leads to increased bottom-line business results of intern retention, full-time employee conversion, full-time employee retention, and leadership succession planning. Sponsors also receive access to the exclusive INROADS network of college graduates to meet immediate workforce goals and provide experience, seasoned professionals. Lastly, INROADS Interns are trained each summer to contribute value to the companies which they work for an immediate contribution, adding to the company’s bottom line.
As an organization of foresight, specializing in the training and development of talented underserved students, it is our business to be aware of the changes in emerging student perceptions, behavior, and values. Clients benefit from our strategic partnership by receiving guidance, insights, and strategies that inspire diverse, millennial undergraduates to become future corporate leaders.
Simultaneously, we train our students to be compatible with their corporate work environment.
“There are many types of students, many of whom respond to different kind of learning, in classrooms, with mentors, in internships. At BOROUGH496, we focus our workforce efforts on nurturing the talent within community we serve, everyone should have the chance for a good paying job. We are proud to welcome INROADS.” noted Mr. Kroop.
