Project Management and Redevelopment Produces Economic Development
6.21.2016
We are often asked, “What exactly does the Department of Economic and Community Development do?” Hamden has always had a strong Economic and Community Development program that values the importance of business incentives, business retention and attraction and workforce development. The Department of Economic and Community Development’s overall goal is to improve the well being of the town by retaining jobs and growing the tax base.
But there is often more to the process of growing the economy. The hard work that gets done involves complicated real estate negotiations, development, and transactions. These projects are administered either by the Department of Economic and Community Development or by Hamden Economic Development Corporation. The redevelopment issues that typically come up include the remediation of brownfield sites, infrastructure investment, and neighborhood revitalization.
In this new series of posts we will highlight important redevelopment projects that impact our neighborhoods and commercial districts. The Department of Economic and Community Development will continue to show you the projects that we are working on weekly, to keep citizens informed on what is going on locally. For more information, visit our website.
The first project that is highlighted is 400 Goodrich Street, which was completed in 2014. This was a previously contaminated, blighted, vacant, and tax delinquent property. Click the link below to see more about the property and what happened.
