NEW SINGLE FAMILY HOUSING COMES TO NEWHALL IN HIGHWOOD
Zero Energy House Nears Completion and Vacant Lots Find a Developer
The Hamden Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce two significant developments in the Newhall area of southern Hamden. “We are pleased to update Hamden residents on the progress being made to complete the re-use of eight vacant parcels, originally purchased by HEDC that resulted from demolition of homes that had severe structural damage resulting from subsurface waste fill conditions. Each lot have a new single family home”, stated Dale Kroop, Director of the Hamden Economic Development Corporation
Zero Energy House Project Nears End
The vacant lot at 499 Newhall Street is the location of a Zero Energy House will be completed soon by HEDC with funds from the CT Housing Investment Fund and from tax credits purchased by Eversource Energy Company. The Corporation is still seeking an income eligible, first time homebuyer who has been pre-approved for a mortgage for the home. A ribbon cutting will be scheduled at the time of closing. The house at 499 Newhall is an 1800 SF single family home with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. It will also include an attached garage with a 600+ S.F. in-law apartment. The home offers many energy efficiency features. Some of these energy features will include significant insulation throughout the walls and ceilings, etc., triple glazed windows and energy efficient appliances.
Seven Vacant Lots Sold to the Beulah Land Development Corporation
The seven other vacant lots were sold by HEDC to Beulah Land Development Corporation in New Haven. Beulah will spend the next several months designing and financing seven homes which will come on the market later in 2017. “We are blessed to have this opportunity to provide homeownership opportunities for low and moderate income families. We believe that homeownership builds wealth that impacts future community investment,” stated Darrell Brooks, President of the Beulah Land Development Corporation. We look for to working with the Hamden Economic Development Corporation and other community partners to make this dream come true for 7 families.
The lots are located on Edwards Street, Shelton Avenue and Morse Street
