Progress Continues on Two Important Projects


Two projects approved over the last couple years continue towards completion. Both are new construction.

Doctor Robert Henry will soon complete his new 10,000 Square Foot medical office building at the corner of Whitney Avenue and Todd Street.

     This project is directly in front of Trailside   Village 55+ condominiums. This project was approved in 2015 and is among a few medical office developments that are actively under way or in planning stages. 

“Health Care services represent the fastest growing segment of Hamden’s economy and the Town anticipates that this growth will continue for years to come. Health Care creates jobs and a great deal of taxable property, in addition to providing needed services for many Hamden residents, and I am pleased to say that Hamden will soon announce plans for another major new health care facility to open in our Town. Stay tuned.” commented Mayor Curt Balzano Leng.

Doctor Henry’s building received business incentives from Hamden Incentive Program, Those incentives included tax abatement and a waiver of a portion of the building permit fees. The total investment by Doctor Henry was over $1.5million. The new building is expected to open in the summer of 2017 and is expected to generate approximately $40,000 in new taxes annually.

Lake Whitney Apartments

The first half of the $45 million, 393 apartment complex at 380 Mather the former home of the Leonard concrete pipe facility located near the corner of Mather and Dixwell Avenue continues on schedule. A total of 200 apartments will come on line in 2017 with the remaining units in 2018.

The majority of the apartments will be one bedroom for working professionals with a mix of some one and two bedrooms units. Most are market are units while 20% will be considered affordable under Hamden’s zoning regulations.

“The project will not only generate over $1million in new revenue from the Town but the impact will also be catalytic in terms of spending power of over 500 new residents so close to shopping and residents. It puts pedestrians close to pedestrian shopping, the canal trail. It can result exactly what our zoning regulations were intended to accomplish in terms of increasing housing density in close proximity to shopping, amenities, transportation and services ”, stated Dale Kroop Director of Economic Development and Neighborhood Revitalization.
