Hamden Entrepreneurs Seminar Series to begin in September of 2021

 

The Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Hamden Economic Development Corporation are pleased to announce the Hamden Entrepreneurs Seminar Series to begin in September of 2021. This four-part series will cover a variety of important business topics for the success of your business.

This program is designed for all small businesses, from start-ups to established companies. The program is for Hamden residents or for those thinking about opening a business in Hamden. Sessions will be held via ZOOM format from 8-9:30 a.m. There is no cost for these sessions although we ask that participants make a non-perishable food or cash donation to the Hamden Food Bank. This program is being subsidized by United Illuminating.

SESSION ONE: September 9th “So you want to be an Entrepreneur?”

  • What is an entrepreneur?
  • Common mistakes made by would be entrepreneurs
  • Common mistakes made by would be entrepreneurs’ supporters
  • The importance of preparing a “Family Plan” even prior to preparation of a business plan
  • Components of a “Family Plan” and why they are important
  • Role of the Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce

 SESSION TWO: September 23rd "Starting and Growing your Business"

  • Form of Business
  • Options for entry
    • Start from scratch
    • Buy an existing business
    • Purchase a franchise

The definitions, advantages and disadvantages of various business types will be explored and discussed. General components of the business plan will also be reviewed.

  

SESSION THREE: October 7th "The Business Plan in Detail"

The goal of Session three is to give detailed guidance to writing a decent business plan. Participants’ specific questions regarding the writing of their business plans will be covered. Content will include but not be limited to business needs assessment, cash flow analysis and projections and also marketing.

Any additional private direction required will be provided by confidential meetings with the Hamden Business Assistance Center.

 

 SESSION FOUR: October 21st: "Financing your Business"

  • Personal resources (i.e. “skin in the game”)
  • Family and friends
  • Business partners
  • Investors
  • Banks
  • Alternative lenders
  • Venture capitalist
  • Grant funding (the myths and the reality)

All Sessions will be presented by Richard Pearce from Evolution Enterprises, based in Hamden. For over 30 years Mr. Pearce has assisted hundreds of businesses from start-ups to well established companies providing guidance and technical training to improve the success of their business.
